Diagnostics

Painted Tree Veterinary Hospital is equipped with a full in-house laboratory and advanced imaging technology, which means faster results, fewer delays, and a treatment plan that’s based on real information rather than guesswork. When your pet isn’t feeling well (or when we need a closer look during a wellness exam), accurate diagnostics are the key to getting answers quickly.

In-House and Reference Laboratory

Our in-house laboratory allows us to run a wide range of tests right here in the hospital, often while you wait. This includes complete bloodwork, urinalysis, intestinal parasite testing, and screening for infectious diseases like FeLV and FIV in cats and parvovirus in dogs. We also offer specialized testing, including endocrine panels, gastrointestinal diagnostics, and cancer screening, to help us identify more complex conditions.

For cases that require more advanced analysis, we work with trusted reference laboratories and can send samples for cytology, histopathology (biopsy), and culture and sensitivity testing. Having both in-house and referral lab capabilities means your pet gets the most appropriate level of testing for their situation — without unnecessary delays.

Dermatology Testing

Skin and ear issues are among the most common reasons pets visit the veterinarian, and getting to the root cause requires the right diagnostic approach. We perform ear and skin cytology, skin scrapings, and culture and sensitivity testing to accurately identify infections, allergies, parasites, and other dermatological conditions so we can target treatment effectively.

Digital Radiography (X-Rays)

Digital X-rays give our veterinarians a detailed view of your pet’s internal structures, helping us detect fractures, foreign bodies, soft tissue abnormalities, dental disease, and more. Digital technology produces high-quality images quickly and with less radiation exposure than traditional film, so your pet spends less time on the table and we get the information we need faster.

Some radiographic studies may require your pet to remain very still, in which case light sedation may be used. Sedation is typically brief and recovery is quick.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound provides a real-time, non-invasive look at your pet’s internal organs and systems. It’s an especially valuable tool for evaluating abdominal organs like the stomach, liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder, and can help us identify blockages, masses, fluid accumulation, and other conditions that may not be visible on X-rays alone. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) allows us to assess heart function, blood flow, chamber size, and valve health. Ultrasound is painless, though some pets may require light sedation to stay still during the procedure.

Getting Answers, Getting Started

Our diagnostic capabilities are designed to work together. Often, the combination of lab work and imaging gives us the most complete picture of your pet’s health, allowing us to move forward with confidence. Whatever we find, we’ll explain the results clearly and walk you through your options so you can make informed decisions about your pet’s care.
